PM+M helps Bury Hospice transform finance function

A major project has seen PM+M help Bury Hospice transform its finance function, driving efficiency, financial control and access to real-time information as the charity continues to meet growing demand for its services.

Bury Hospice, which provides specialist palliative and end-of-life care to people across the local community, appointed PM+M to review its existing finance function. Working closely with the hospice’s finance team, PM+M subsequently delivered a wider transformation of its finance function that focused on reducing its use of manual spreadsheets and legacy systems as well as diminishing duplicate data entry practices.

A raft of key processes were implemented, support was given around the migration from Sage 50 to Xero alongside the implementation of integrated cloud-based applications.

The changes have reduced manual input and strengthened consistency of financial information and have given the hospice greater visibility of its financial performance. PM+M also provided tailored training and change management support throughout the project, helping the finance team adapt to the new systems and processes with confidence.

The project reflects the growing focus among organisations across Lancashire and Greater Manchester on modernising finance functions, improving financial reporting and using cloud technology to increase efficiency and strengthen financial control.

Stuart Richardson, CEO of Bury Hospice, said: “Working with PM+M has been a genuinely transformational experience for Bury Hospice. Before the project, our finance processes were heavily manual and time-consuming. PM+M took the time to understand how we operated and worked alongside us to redesign our processes, not just implement new software.

Stuart added: “The move to Xero and wider changes have significantly reduced manual input and given us much better access to real-time financial information. The collaborative approach, training and ongoing support also ensured our team felt confident with the changes. We now have a more forward-looking finance function, putting us in a much stronger position to support the delivery of our services to the local community.”

Rosie Cooper, Director of Cloud Accounting at PM+M, commented: “It was important that this project delivered more than simply a new accounting system. By understanding how Bury Hospice’s finance function operated and where the challenges were, we were able to redesign processes around their needs and introduce technology that would make a genuine difference.

“The result is a more efficient and connected finance function. For an organisation delivering such vital services, having timely financial information and efficient processes provides a much stronger foundation for its continued work in the community.”

PM+M’s Cloud Accounting team is also celebrating after receiving Silver in the Practice Digital Transformation Award category at last week’s Accounting Excellence Awards. It was in recognition of their work with clients around embracing digital technology and improving the way they manage their finances. The ceremony took place at the Roundhouse in Camden on Tuesday 29th September.

For almost two decades, The Accounting Excellence Awards have championed exceptional talent across the accounting profession by celebrating the people, teams and firms whose expertise, dedication and achievements are shaping the industry.
