Recording the latest episode of ‘Lead, Learn + Grow’ with Gill Boyle gave me a moment to pause and reflect – not just on her journey, but on my own approach to leadership.
What stood out most was the power of honesty. Honest conversations, honest feedback, and honest reflection on our own strengths and areas for growth. It reinforced how important it is to create environments where people feel able to be open – because that’s where real development happens.
It also highlighted a strong sense of gratitude. Listening to Gill talk about the people who have shaped her – mentors, colleagues and family – was a reminder that none of us achieve anything in isolation. Leadership is rarely about individual success; it’s about the people around us and those who invest in us along the way.
Authenticity came through in every part of the conversation. Being yourself as a leader isn’t always the easiest path, but it is the most sustainable. When you lead authentically, you build trust – and that trust underpins everything.
Finally, it made me reflect on the importance of not taking things for granted. Whether it’s the opportunities we’ve been given, the teams we work with or the relationships we build, it’s easy to focus on what’s next without recognising what is already there.
For me, this conversation was a reminder that leadership isn’t about titles or progression. It’s about how we show up, how we support others, and how we continue to learn along the way.
