Companies House to allow coronavirus-related filing extensions

Businesses affected by the COVID-19 outbreak can now apply to Companies House to request an extension to file their accounts, reports and confirmation statements.

It is important that the request for an extension is made before the filing deadline, as requests made after will not be considered and late filing penalties will automatically be charged.

The maximum extension is three months and updated government advice states that all appeals will be treated on a case-by-case basis. The COVID-19 appeals process will follow the same process and existing criteria as what is currently followed for unforeseen poor health.

All applications must be made online or by post and include the company number, an email address, information regarding the reasons why an extension is required and all documents that you have to support this.

There are now restrictions to public access to all Companies House offices. Where possible, you should file your accounts online if you’re able to.

If you feel that the effect of coronavirus will impact your ability to meet your filing deadline, please contact us today on 01254 679131.
