PM+M has been working with family businesses for over 90 years supporting them from initial start up through to expansion and succession, providing tailored advice every step of the way. Many of our original family business clients are still in business today and continue to work with us.
We understand the difficulties faced by family businesses and know that when a family is in business together, it’s common for business roles and family relationships to overlap and clash at some stage. We also know that if these issues are not appropriately managed or resolved, they can cause businesses to fail and relatives to feud.
We believe it takes a great deal of skill, empathy and knowledge to help them achieve their aims as they are often a unique blend of commerce and emotion. This is especially so when planning for succession.
We enjoy playing a part in our clients’ success and have developed our expertise to help them to continue to evolve and succeed through the generations.
SUCCESSION PLANNING
This can be one of the main sources of conflict within a family business because of the complex interaction of family and business issues involved.
We work alongside our clients to help them to determine the best route for the family and the business. We facilitate the difficult conversations and help steer the family through the minefield of potential problems that may arise.
We then put in place a detailed plan, incorporating specialist tax, wealth management and funding advice to make the plan work.
Finally, we work with the family, providing the support necessary to make that plan a reality.

We are proud to be one of a select group of accountancy firms who are members of the International Centre for Families in Business (ICFIB). And as its sole corporate member here in the North West, we have created region’s first centre of excellence for family businesses – The North West Centre for Family Businesses.
The Centre is a unique offering which provides a hub for family businesses to gain expert advice in areas such as management and ownership succession, integration of business planning with family goals, family tax and wealth management and even conflict resolution.
